The Troy Public Library and Transition Troy are pleased to announce the showing of “The Big Fix”.

Join us at the Lansingburgh Branch for a series of Arts and Crafts workshops.  The following classes are already scheduled and we will be adding more so be sure to check the website for an updated list:

• Image Transfer Class: June 3rd at 6:00 pm – Bring in some of your own materials (photos, and magazine pictures)  and learn how to transfer them onto other mediums to incorporate into an art piece. Sarah from Art by Sarah Jane will present this workshop. Register online.
• Card Making Workshop: June 5th at 6:00 pm – In this class we aim to take the scariness and mystery out of creating greeting cards that look complete and professional. This upbeat and inspirational class will include a card kit with stamps, punches, and multiple layout inspirations.  Learn how to put your words into a beautiful visual display on a greeting card to a loved one!  What better way to start the new year than with a wealth of new ideas to add to your card making arsenal and simplify your creations! Alexa Bernstein of Rosie O’Grady Designs will lead this workshop. Register online.

There will be a 2-hour Civil Service Test Preparation workshop by a Deb Baum from CSEA Work Institute.  The topics will include:

• General Test Taking Tips
• Understanding and Interpreting Written Material
• Preparing Written Material

We now have the use of the Rensselaer County Courthouse parking (see map) lot in the evenings after 5 PM and on Saturdays. Parking is accessible from the alley on Congress Street, across from Brueggers, with an exit onto Third Street. A caution however. The county is not responsible for theft or damage to vehicles or contents of vehicles parked in the courthouse lot.

Since the library does not have a parking lot, during the day, on street parking is the only option. It is important to remember that parking on the street north of Ferry Street (now a tunnel on second street) is designated as downtown and two hour parking is in effect. South of Ferry street there is no time limit and all day parking can usually be found within two blocks of the Main Library. Congress Street is designated as a pay to park area.

Friday is alternate side of the street parking on Second and Third Streets for regular street cleaning and/or snow plowing. No parking on the West side of the street between 9AM and Noon and no parking on the East side between Noon and 3 PM. Parking restrictions are strictly enforced.

Lansingburgh Branch:

The Lansingburgh Branch on 114th Street has a small off street parking lot.  If the lot is full, on street parking is readily available.

“Books Heal Hearts” is a project set up by the Cyrenius H. Booth Library, Newtown, CT with donations, both monetary and physical books, given in response to the Sandy Hook School tragedy.

Join us for this nine week program that will culminate in a completed comic book by the group and a release party. You need not attend all nine classes, but we ask you to attend at least five.

• May 22^nd – Story Land Map: think outside your own ideas by using a random map to create a story. Register online.
• May 29^th – Cover Printing: Risograph printing for covers. Meet at Design It Together Studio. Register online.
• June 5^th – Publishing a Comic: Learn about layout, binding and what it takes to complete a project. Register online.
• June 12^th - Release Party! Register online.

During the month of May you can donate unopened containers of wet/dry cat and dog food as well as cat litter for local animal shelters.

“Writing with Melville,” presented by local writer/teacher Amy Halloran. This five-week fiction workshop is based on Herman Melville’s life and writing. Students will learn a bit about the author’s history in Troy and read his shorter fiction, which will serve as a starting point for writing short stories.  This project is made possible in part through a Community Art$Grant, a program funded by The Arts Center of the Capital Region through the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency.

Zentangle is a repeating pattern technique for creating unique artwork.  Come learn a fun and relaxing new craft.
