Cards will be issued to any resident of New York State who can provide two forms of identification, one of which includes your current address. Valid forms of identification include a driver’s license or a state issued non-drivers ID with your current address, an ID card or badge with your name typed (NOT written) on it, mail with your name and current address printed on it and a postmark within the past 30 days. If you do not have these forms of ID please check at the Check Out desk to see what else you can use. If necessary a postcard can be sent to your address for verification.

For Your Information…

You may not hold more than one valid library card from any of the 29 libraries in the Upper Hudson Library System. All cards are interchangeable between member libraries, and can be used at any of the locations (some restrictions may apply at some locations for patrons who reside outside of Albany and Rensselaer counties). If necessary you can replace your card for a charge of $1.00, but you must show a picture ID in order to do so.

If your card is lost or stolen let us know immediately. You are responsible for materials charged on your card by anyone.

You must inform us of any name, telephone, or address change as soon as it occurs.

The first time you use your library card you may take out two items. When these items are returned our normal limits will apply.

Troy Public Library is part of the Upper Hudson Library System. Your Troy Public Library card is accepted at most public libraries in Rensselaer and Albany counties.

The loan period for movies (VHS and DVD) is 7 days except for New Release DVD’s, which may be borrowed for 3 days.

A fine of $1.00 per day per title will be applied to movies returned late. There will be a maximum fine of $5.00 per item. You will be required to pay for lost or damaged items.

Most items can be returned in the book drop.

Renewals may be possible. You can attempt to renew in person, on the telephone, or online. Please have your library card available when attempting to renew.

A child under the age of 18 may not check out movies (VHS or DVD) unless a parent or legal guardian is present or has completed the Video Permission form.

The library does not restrict children’s movie selections. If you wish for your child to avoid specific titles, library collections, ratings, or topics you must arrange this with your child. Library staff can assist in making recommendations or finding requested items but will not censor. Please familiarize yourself with our videos before granting permission for your child to borrow these items.

Parents/guardians willing to allow their children the privilege of checking out movies will need to complete permission slip. By signing the permission slip, parents/guardians understand that their child maybe exposed to content intended for mature audiences.

Parents/guardians are, ultimately, responsible for the materials their children check out.
