As you may have heard, the library has received state grant money to construct an elevator which will allow access to the upstairs Reading Room. Most of the construction over the next several months will be based in the basement, where our Reference and Collection Management offices are located. Our access to this area and our available storage space will be severely limited.

Due to these storage constraints, we are unable to continue to accept most donations of books and other materials, effective immediately. Although we appreciate your donations, many of the items donated are not in high demand and we will not have space to store them during the construction. If items are donated that we cannot use, we have to pay to have them picked up for recycling. We will continue to accept the following items only: BOOKS published WITHIN THE PAST YEAR, and CDs or DVDs in good condition from any date. Thank you for your understanding.

Donations of used books to the library are always welcome. Items that cannot be added to the library’s collections are added to the stock of the BookCellar, the ongoing book sale operated by the Friends of the Troy Public Library. All proceeds from the BookCellar benefit the library. Please use the following guidelines when donating items.

Please place all donations in sturdy boxes or bags, and schedule large donations in advance. If you would like a receipt for tax purposes, we can provide a dated acknowledgment of the donation, but cannot place monetary value on donated items.
