Summer Reading Challenge 2019 starts June 27th

Sign up, read, and record what you’ve read. Return to the library each week for a chance to win prizes.  Young People ages 3–18 can sign up at the library or online.

Check out our free events:

  • Thursday June 27th: Main Library at 2:00 pm, all ages. Register and receive a prize! Enjoy Out of this World STEAM Activities: Moon and Stars crafts.

July:

  • Tuesday, July 2nd: Detective Science at 1:00 pm, Main Library for ages 5-11. Explore the science of forensics with hands on activities at the library.
  • Tuesday, July 9th: Reptile Adventure at 6:30 pm, Main Library, for all ages. See and touch lizards and reptiles at the library.
  • Wednesday, July 10th: Family Storytime at 10:30 am, Main Library, for ages 0-5.  Join us as we engage in stories, music and play.
  • Thursday, July 11th: What’s the Scoop? at 1:00 pm, Lansingburgh Branch, for ages 5 and up.  Learn how to make your own ice cream.
  • Thursday, July 11th: Space Out STEAM Activities: Rockets at 2:30 pm, Main Library, for all ages. Hands on activities about Rockets.
  • Tuesday, July 16th: The Prince Swan at 6:30 pm, Main Library, for ages 3 and up. Presented by the Heldeberg Marionettes, a puppet show featuring hand crafted puppets.
  • Wednesday, July 17th: Space Out STEAM Activities: Space Unicorn at 2:00 pm for all ages. Hands on Space Unicorn themed activities.

Preschool Family Storytime

Family Storytime – Grow a Reader!
This 45 minute enrichment program includes stories, songs, and movement to support children’s learning and discovery from the very beginning. For children ages 0-5 with a caregiver.

  • Teen Gaming: Tuesdays at 3:00 pm, Lansingburgh Branch
  • Family Storytime: Thursdays at 10:30 am, Lansingburgh Branch. Stories, songs and movement for ages 0-5.
  • Don’t Be Bored Games: Wednesdays at 5:30 pm, Main Library, all ages. Drop by and play board games in the Young People’s Room!
  • Greta the Reading Dog: Saturdays at 12:00 pm, Main Library, all ages. Read or visit with Greta.

Teddy the Reading Dog

If your child struggles with reading, bring him or her in to read to Teddy the Shih Tzu, who will help build reading confidence with a judgment-free ear and a wagging tail!  Stop in for a 15 minute appointment.

Other Reading Programs for Kids

1000 books before kindergarten

We are launching a new early Literacy program specifically designed to give babies and toddlers the best start possible on lifelong reading and learning skills. 1KBBK is an easy-to-follow program designed to help parents and children get in the habit of reading on a regular basis and to improve all important language skills before they enter kindergarten. Stop by the Main Library and ask about 1000 Books Before Kindergarten.
