Summer Reading Challenge 2019 starts June 27th

Sign up, read, and record what you’ve read. Return to the library each week for a chance to win prizes.  Young People ages 3–18 can sign up at the library or online.

  • Thursday June 27th: Main Library at 2:00 pm, all ages. Register and receive a prize! Enjoy Out of this World STEAM Activities: Moon and Stars crafts.

July:

  • Tuesday, July 2nd: Detective Science at 1:00 pm, Main Library for ages 5-11. Explore the science of forensics with hands on activities at the library.
  • Tuesday, July 9th: Reptile Adventure at 6:30 pm, Main Library, for all ages. See and touch lizards and reptiles at the library.
  • Wednesday, July 10th: Family Storytime at 10:30 am, Main Library, for ages 0-5.  Join us as we engage in stories, music and play.
  • Thursday, July 11th: What’s the Scoop? at 1:00 pm, Lansingburgh Branch, for ages 5 and up.  Learn how to make your own ice cream.
  • Thursday, July 11th: Space Out STEAM Activities: Rockets at 2:30 pm, Main Library, for all ages. Hands on activities about Rockets.
  • Tuesday, July 16th: The Prince Swan at 6:30 pm, Main Library, for ages 3 and up. Presented by the Heldeberg Marionettes, a puppet show featuring hand crafted puppets.
  • Wednesday, July 17th: Space Out STEAM Activities: Space Unicorn at 2:00 pm for all ages. Hands on Space Unicorn themed activities.

  • Thursday, July 18th: Out of this World at 1:00 pm, Lansingburgh Branch, for ages 5-11. Learn about the constellations in our sky and try to defy gravity in our program space.
  • Tuesday, July 23rd: Space Out STEAM Activities: Galaxy Rocks at 2:00 pm, Main Library, all ages.  Hands on Galaxy Rocks themed activities.
  • Wednesday, July 24th: Birds of Prey at 11:00 am, Main Library, for all ages. Meet and learn about live birds of prey at the library.
  • Thursday, July 25th: Space Technology at 12:00 pm, Lansingburgh Branch, for ages 5-11. Explore space-related technology used on Earth.
  • Tuesday, July 30th: Reptile Adventure at 2:00 pm,  Lansingburgh Branch, for all ages.
    See and touch live lizards and reptiles at the library.

 

 

August:

  • Thursday, August 1st: Space Out STEAM Activities: Star Wars at 2:00 pm, Main Library, for all ages. Hands on Star Wars themed activities.
  • Friday, August 2nd: Art with the Tang Museum at 11:00 am, Main Library, for ages 5 and up. Make artwork to take home with the Tang Museum.
  • Tuesday, August 6th: What’s the Scoop? at 1:00 pm, Main Library, for ages 5 and up. Learn how to make your own ice cream.
  • Wednesday, August 7th: Walloping Weather at 1:00 pm, Lansingburgh Branch, for ages 5-11.  Learn about how tornadoes and thunderstorms form in this fun introduction to meteorology.
  • Thursday, August 8th: Fairy Story Hour with Queen Mab at 11:00 am, Barker Park (at 3rd and State Streets), for ages 3-8. A fairy story hour with Queen Mab of the Enchanted City.
  • Thursday, August 8th: Space Out STEAM Activities: Aliens at 2:00 pm, Main Library, for all ages. Hands on Aliens themed activities.
  • Tuesday, August 13th: Space Out STEAM Activities: The Solar System at 2:00 pm, Main Library, for all ages. Hands on activities about the Solar System.
  • Wednesday, August 14th: Radical Robotics at 1:00 pm, Lansingburgh Branch, for ages 5-11.
    Build your own Robot Hand as you learn about the science of robotics.
  • Thursday, August 15th: End of Summer Reading Party at 2:00 pm, Main Library, for ages 3 and up (for summer reading challenge participants). Join Magician Jackie Reynolds, plus prizes and refreshments to celebrate the end of Summer Reading.
